Uncle Sam Green-Lights Reopening of Utah National Parks, With State Funding

UNCLE SAM HAS GIVEN UTAH GOVERNOR GARY HERBERT -- AND AT LEAST THREE OTHER STATES -- THE GREEN LIGHT TODAY, TO RE-OPEN NATIONAL PARKS AND MONUMENTS, BEFORE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IS RESOLVED.

THE GOVERNOR'S DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF, ALLY ISOM, SAYS HER BOSS RECEIVED THAT WORD, BY PHONE, DIRECTLY FROM INTERIOR SECRETARY SALLY JEWEL.

IT'S NOT YET CLEAR WHETHER A SPECIAL SESSION -- OF THE UTAH STATE LEGISLATURE -- WILL BE REQUIRED, TO AUTHORIZE THE SPENDING.

IT'S ALSO UNKNOWN WHETHER ALL OF OUR STATE'S NATIONAL PARKS AND MONUMENTS WILL BE ABLE TO REOPEN...OR, EXACTLY WHEN ANY OF THEM WILL REOPEN.

THE GOVERNOR'S STAFF WAS WORKING THROUGH THE DETAILS, THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

THE EXPECTATION IS, ONCE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RETURNS TO WORK, STATE FUNDING WILL BE REIMBERSED.
