Two Nearly Identical Utah Murder Cases Move Forward

IN A STRANGE COINCIDENCE, TWO UTAH DOCTORS ARE ACCUSED OF DRUGGING THEIR WIFE -- AND EX-WIFE -- AND EACH LEAVING THEM TO DIE IN THE FAMILY BATHTUB.

FORMER UTAH COUNTY DOCTOR MARTIN MACNEILL RETURNS TO A PROVO COURT TOMORROW, FOR THE SECOND WEEK OF HIS MURDER TRIAL.

MEANTIME, FORMER SALT LAKE PEDIATRICIAN -- DR. JOHN WALL -- PLEADED NOT GUILTY, MONDAY MORNING, DURING HIS ARRAIGNMENT, ON ALMOST IDENTICAL CHARGES.

DEFENSE ATTORNEY FRED METOS SAYS, WALL HAS MAINTAINED HIS INNOCENCE -- SINCE HIS ARREST, IN MAY -- IN THE DEATH OF EX-WIFE, UTA VON SCHWEDLER.

DOWN IN PLEASANT GROVE, DR. MACNEILL'S WIFE WAS FOUND DEAD -- IN HER BATHTUB -- IN 2007.

IN SALT LAKE -- AT HER SUGARHOUSE HOME -- VON SCHWEDLER WAS FOUND DEAD -- IN HER BATHTUB -- IN 2011.

DR. WALL IS NOW SCHEDULED TO NEXT APPEAR IN COURT -- FOR A STATUS HEARING -- IN FEBRUARY.

DR. MACNEILL'S TRIAL IS EXPECTED TO RUN ANOTHER FOUR WEEKS.

ANOTHER COINCIDENCE: IN BOTH CASES, AT LEAST SOME OF THE COUPLES' CHILDREN HAVE SAID THEY AGREE WITH PROSECUTORS, THAT THEIR FATHER'S MURDERED THEIR MOTHERS.
