New Cell Phone Laws Take Effect in Utah Next Week

UTAH DRIVERS FACE A NEW CELL PHONE LAW, STARTING NEXT TUESDAY.

IT WILL STILL BE LEGAL TO ANSWER YOUR CELL PHONE -- AND HOLD IT UP TO YOUR EAR -- WHILE DRIVING.

BUT UTAH HIGHWAY PATROL LT. JEFF NIGBUR SAYS, DIALING PHONE NUMBERS -- OR MANIPULATING THE PHONE IN ANY OTHER WAY -- WILL NOW BE ILLEGAL.

POLICE SAY WE CAN STILL USE OUR PHONE'S G-P-S NAVIGATION SYSTEM... OR MAKE AN EMERGENCY CALL.

BUT OTHER USE OF YOUR PHONE COULD RESULT IN A 100-DOLLAR TICKET.

U-H-P TROOPERS SAY THEY WILL ISSUE WARNINGS, SOON AFTER THE LAW BECOMES OFFICIAL.

BUT, BEFORE LONG, THEY'LL BE WRITING CITATIONS.
