Minorities Now Make Up a Fifth of Utah's Population

FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE MORMON PIONEERS ARRIVED IN THE AREA, OUR UTAH POPULATION IS NOW 20% MINORITY.

THAT'S THE WORD -- FROM THE U-S CENSUS BUREAU -- IN NUMBERS RELEASED THIS WEEK.

OFFICIALS SAY, OF OUR STATE'S 2.9-MILLION RESIDENTS... JUST UNDER 600,000 ARE MINORITIES.

THAT'S UP MORE THAN HALF A PERCENT, IN THREE YEARS.

TWO-THIRDS OF ALL UTAH MINORITIES ARE LATINOS.
