Man Who Asked Girlfriend to Hide His Meth Pipe Faces Multiple Charges

A FORMER ASSISTANT SALT LAKE COUNTY PROSECUTOR -- WITH A LONG LIST OF CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST HIM -- NOW FACES NEW ACCUSATONS.

MATTHEW NIELSEN, 46, LEFT THE COUNTY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE SIX YEARS AGO.

POLICE SAY EARLIER THIS MONTH, HE WAS DRIVING -- WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND, IN DUCHESNE COUNTY -- WHEN THEY WERE PULLED OVER.

NIELSEN REPORTEDLY ASKED THE WOMAN TO HOLD THE METH PIPE THEY HAD BEEN SMOKING.

SHE WAS ARRESTED...AND A WEEK LATER, SHE CLAIMS THE SUSPECT ASSAULTED HER AT A COURTHOUSE, WHERE SHE WAS APPEARING ON THE CHARGES.

ADDITIONALLY, NIELSEN IS ALSO AWAITING TRIAL IN THREE OTHER CASES -- FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, CHILD ABUSE, ASSAULT AND DRUG VIOLATIONS.
